Pamukkale is really the 8th wonder of the world. This natural formation includes hot water springs and travertine terraces formed by the carbonate minerals left by running water. On the opposite side of the valley, these terraces can be seen from the hills in Denizli, 20 kilometers away.
The ancient city of Hierapolis was built on this ‘cotton castle’, which is approximately 2,700 meters long, 600 meters wide and 160 meters high. Here you can visit an ancient Roman amphitheater, the historical museum (ancient Turkish bath), the ancient Cleopatra swimming pool, the monumental tomb of St. Philippe, the charming Anatolian Necropolis, and much more.
Due to the magnificent white travertines and the historical value of Hierapolis Ancient City, Pamukkale was added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1988.
